Radiators Not Heating
A cold radiator in a house where the boiler is clearly working usually means something local in that loop, so call and say which rooms are affected.
When this becomes an emergency
- One radiator stays stone cold while the rest of the house is comfortable.
- There is knocking in the pipes shortly after the boiler starts.
- A radiator is warm along the bottom and cold across the top.
- An upstairs room never catches up no matter how long the system runs.
What a pro does
A single cold emitter rarely means the boiler is failing. Air collecting at the high point of a radiator blocks flow, a valve stem can seize partway closed after years of never being turned, and older houses that were converted or added onto often carry loops that were never properly balanced afterward. A radiator hot low and cold high is holding air and needs bleeding, which is a very different job from chasing a circulator. Knocking pipes are usually a pitch or support problem in the piping itself, and that's where the technician looks.
